What inspired your Meet Cute series, âDog Parkâ?
My inspiration is my dog Gus, who I share with my partner. We jokingly do his voice around the apartment, and I thought it would be fun to create a kind of love story between two very different dogs. Dogs have such quirky, distinct personalities - so it was fun to be inventive with an imagined world where they can communicate with each other. Honestly, my favorite things on the planet are dogs, rom coms, and pizza - it was a dream to write a series that featured two out of my three faves.
What was it like to write a rom-com for audio that couldn't be more than 15 minutes long?
The structure of a 15 minute rom-com is actually very freeing to me. As a writer, my preference is to create memorable dialogue over building a story. So this specific, tight structure gives me the ability to have characters explore conversation while in familiar space. It really taps into my playwriting background.Â
Whatâs your favorite rom-com?
When Harry Met Sally. Hands down. It was an undeniable hit and cultural milestone that's all character and dialogue. That will probably never happen again. Anyone of a certain age knows, "I'll have what she's having.â That feels very special and a testament to Nora Ephron's genius.
