Forgive us for our lack of chill, but it’s HALLOWEEN, Y’ALL!
We’re stoked for you to hear this week’s series, The Paranormal. It was made with binaural audio, which creates a uniquely immersive listening experience. “Binaural has been around for a long time, but lately there’s been more development and interest in it because of virtual reality,” says John Bowen, the producer behind The Paranormal. “I love the idea of using it for narrative podcasts. You can really put the listener in the middle of the story, and it can help with a lot of the story-telling that visuals might handle normally. I’ve approached the sound design for these episodes as if I were doing a film – with a great level of detail.”
We recommend listening to the series using headphones — you’ll feel like you’re in the middle of the action.

✏️ Writer’s Spotlight: Flannery Spring-Robinson 📓
What inspired your Meet Cute series, The Paranormal?
When coming up with my proposed idea for Meet Cute, I just finished writing a short scene for an episodic I was working on. I wrote a monologue for the main character, a serial killer, who was holed up with her partner-in-crime in a motel and watching Scooby-Doo. That probably had something to do with it.
What was it like to write a rom-com for audio that couldn't be more than 15 minutes long?
Definitely not easy at first. I usually work in longer form for film. I basically started off with 28 page scripts and after the first draft I'd then compact into bite size fun for Meet Cute. Honestly, it was an amazing challenge that I learned from. I loved focusing on sound direction! Explored the fun I could have with that a whole lot.
What’s your favorite rom-com?
Arsenic and Old Lace, His Girl Friday, almost anything Cary Grant. I can't forget Abbott & Costello's The Time of Their Lives... possibly more clues to what inspired my Meet Cute Series.
